Vetch LOS 5 Vetch

Technical Profile: Vetch Variety 'LOS 5'

The 'LOS 5' vetch, developed by the A.L. Mazlumov All-Russian Research Institute of Sugar Beet and Sugar, is a specialized winter-hardy variety engineered for robust agricultural performance. The plant's architecture, reaching 80–120 cm in height, is optimized for structural stability, effectively managing biomass development while preventing lodging, which is vital for efficient mechanical harvesting.

Phytosanitary Resilience and Genetics

The core advantage of LOS 5 lies in its high degree of inherent resistance to common legume pathogens. Specifically, its resistance to Ascochyta blight and powdery mildew significantly reduces the reliance on fungicide treatments. This genetic resilience ensures consistent biomass production even during seasons with high disease pressure, providing a safer ROI for producers.

Cultivation Parameters

• Sowing Window: Late autumn (winter sowing). This strategy leverages early spring moisture, facilitating the development of a resilient root system necessary for spring vigor.
• Seeding Rate: 120–150 kg/ha. This density is calibrated to maximize field uniformity, ensuring optimal sunlight interception and effective nitrogen fixation within the soil profile.

LOS 5 is engineered for operations prioritizing reliable green forage production and soil health improvement. Its technical profile makes it a dependable component in crop rotation systems requiring efficient nitrogen management.
