Vetch Lariia

Agronomic Profile of the «Laria» Spring Vetch

The «Laria» spring vetch, developed by the Ternopil Institute of Agro-Industrial Production (NAAS of Ukraine), is a specialized grain-legume variety optimized for high-protein forage and soil enrichment. This variety represents a precise breeding solution aimed at maximizing biomass yield while maintaining biological stability under varying meteorological conditions in Ukraine.

Core Technical Specifications

• Type: Grain-legume; suitable for forage, silage, and grain production.
• Growth Pattern: High leaf-to-stem ratio, promoting effective soil coverage and weed suppression.
• Agronomic Role: Exceptional symbiotic nitrogen fixation, which significantly improves soil nutrient levels for follow-up crops in a rotation.

The technical core of «Laria» lies in its physiological resilience. By prioritizing the development of a robust root system and efficient nodule formation, the variety successfully maximizes the biological nitrogen fixation process. For commercial growers, this translates to reduced input costs for nitrogen fertilizers in the subsequent planting season.

Regarding production, the variety demonstrates synchronized maturation of pods, which is essential for minimizing harvest losses. The high protein content in the grain makes it a strategic asset for livestock operations seeking to lower dependency on imported soy-based feeds. «Laria» is particularly noted for its compatibility with cereal mixtures, such as oats, allowing farmers to optimize the quality and nutritional profile of the harvested forage.
