Vetch Pannonska

Why «Pannonska» is the choice for efficient green forage systems

The «Pannonska» vetch variety occupies a niche position in Ukrainian fodder production. Unlike many varieties focused solely on hay production, this variety was bred to emphasize rapid vegetative mass accumulation within a tight timeframe. This makes it an essential component for green forage conveyor schemes, where fast regrowth after cutting is critical.

Agrotechnical characteristics

The plant reaches a height of 50–80 cm. This compactness, combined with dense foliage, provides an optimal balance between fodder volume and ease of mechanical harvesting. «Pannonska» responds exceptionally well to soil fertility and efficiently utilizes early spring moisture.

• Early maturity: Allows for quick field clearing, fitting perfectly into crop rotation cycles.
• Fodder value: High protein content makes it an ideal component for mixed sowing with oats or barley.
• Stress resistance: Adapted to Ukrainian climatic zones and resistant to lodging, which is crucial for high-quality green forage production.

Who is this variety for?

«Pannonska» is optimal for livestock-focused farms that need high-quality protein additives for cattle diets. While it may lag behind specialized grain-heavy varieties in seed yield, it outperforms them in green forage quality—specifically in stem tenderness and palatability. It is a strategic tool for the farmer prioritizing feed nutritional value and high conversion rates into milk or weight gain over simple bulk tonnage.
