Vetch LUGOVSKAYA 3

Technical profile of the cultivar

Vetch 'Lugovskaya 3' is a product of the breeding program at the V.R. Williams All-Russian Fodder Research Institute. It is an intensive-type variety focused on achieving high vegetative biomass production in a short growth cycle. Its genetic potential allows for a plant height of 80–120 cm, which is a critical specification for mechanical harvesting for hay and green fodder.

Morphology and productivity

• Stand structure: The optimal height of 80–120 cm ensures a balance between biomass volume and lodging resistance. The developed stem allows the variety to be used effectively in mixtures with small grains (oats, barley), which serve as support.
• Forage purpose: The variety demonstrates high nutritional value when harvested at the flowering stage. Low fiber content in the early growth phases and a balanced amino acid profile make it a valuable component for high-protein silage and hay production.
• Adaptability: Developed for temperate climates, the cultivar provides predictable dry matter yields even under fluctuating moisture conditions, thanks to the genetic stability engineered by the developer.

Practical application in crop rotation

Utilizing 'Lugovskaya 3' is ideal for operations aiming to quickly bridge the plant protein deficit. High leafiness increases the protein concentration per ton of harvested biomass. When managed with proper agronomy, the variety produces uniform emergence and consistent growth, minimizing the risks of weed competition during the early stages of vegetation.
