The potato variety Zabava is a medium-early table variety developed at the Institute of Potato Breeding of NAAN and registered in the Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine since 2004. This variety is characterized by a vegetation period from emergence to technical maturity of 70–75 days, enabling harvest at optimal times. Tubers have a long-oval shape with pink skin and white flesh, with individual marketable tubers weighing 84–120 grams. The taste of the potato is rated as very good, with starch content ranging from 14.3–17.3%, ensuring excellent flavor and versatility in culinary applications. Zabava is distinguished by high yield: marketable yield ranges from 19.3 to 32.3 tons per hectare, with a maximum of 35 tons per hectare. Yield on day 45 after emergence may range from 7.8 to 23.1 tons per hectare, and on day 55 — from 17.9 to 29.4 tons per hectare. Tubers' marketability is within 85–97%, indicating high product quality. The variety’s storability is excellent — up to 98% — allowing long-term storage without loss of market and flavor qualities. The Zabava variety exhibits resistance to several diseases, making it a reliable choice for cultivation in various climatic zones of Ukraine, including Polissia, forest-steppe, and steppe regions. It is resistant to potato cyst nematode and to potato late blight, as well as to mosaic and leaf curling diseases. However, the variety is moderately susceptible to phytophthora, ring rot, and rust spot, requiring adherence to agronomic practices to prevent disease. Thanks to its characteristics and resistance, the Zabava variety is an excellent choice for obtaining high-quality and high-yielding potato crops.
