The potato variety Captiva is a mid-early table variety developed by German breeders EUROPLANT PFLANZENZUCHT GMBH and included in the state register since 2018. The plant is tall with semi-erect light-green leaves and a medium-sized flower with moderate anthocyanin coloring. Tubers are large, elongated-oval in shape, with smooth yellow skin and small surface eyes. The average tuber mass ranges from 101 to 238 grams, and the flesh is yellow, dense, and does not darken during heat treatment. Starch content is within 12.8-15.4%, ensuring moderate density and low breakdown during cooking. The Captiva variety is characterized by high yield — under proper agronomic practices, up to 420-450 centners of quality potatoes can be obtained per hectare. Tubers have a marketability of 87-98%, and storability reaches 95%, making this variety attractive for storage and sale. The potato is versatile in cooking: suitable for frying, including in deep fryers, stewing, soups, and salads. When boiled, the flesh becomes crumbly, and when fried, it becomes soft inside with a crispy crust, highlighting its excellent taste qualities, rated 4.9 out of 5 by the state variety commission. Captiva exhibits high resistance to several diseases and pests, including leaf curl virus, potato cancer pathogen, golden potato nematode, black leg, and crinkly mosaic. Due to its good adaptation to climatic conditions in Ukraine and Russia, this variety is a promising choice for cultivation in central regions and ensures stable, high-quality yields.
