The potato variety Vodograi passed state trials on state variety testing stations in 1995, was included in the Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine (Author's Certificate No. 271), and is recommended for regionalization in the Forest-Steppe and Polissia zones. Vodograi is a medium-early table variety. The plant is low, sprawling, with branched, numerous stems and white flowers. Tubers are round-oval, white, with flat stolon eyes, smooth skin, small eyes, and creamy flesh. The average weight of marketable tubers is 85–108 g, with a marketability of 95–96%. A characteristic feature of the Vodograi variety is low starch content (12.5–13.8%), high content of carotenoids, vitamin C, essential amino acids, and other valuable components, which is important for dietary products. The variety is resistant to common and one aggressive biotypes of potato cyst nematode (pathotype KO1) and relatively resistant to stem nematode and common late blight. It exhibits enhanced resistance to late blight (at the level of the Nevskaya variety). It is an intensive type. Research conducted by the Institute of Potato Growing showed that when 40 t/ha of manure and optimal doses of mineral fertilizers (nitrogen 60 kg/ha, phosphorus 60 kg/ha, potassium 90 kg/ha of active substance) are applied, the yield at early harvest (on the 70th day after planting) is 215 centners/ha, and at the end of the vegetation period, the maximum yield reaches 640 centners/ha. According to state variety trials, the guaranteed yield increase for this variety compared to the national standard for Polissia is 19%, and for the Forest-Steppe zone — 9.9%. Key agronomic features for growing this potato variety include pre-planting heating or sprouting of tubers and maintaining loose soil. Results of growing the Vodograi variety under production conditions can be reviewed at the experimental farm 'Nemishaye-ve' of the Institute of Potato Growing, where the yield reached 308 centners/ha, exceeding the national standard yield by 98 centners/ha. Seed material can be purchased at this institute at a price of 60 UAH per centner of elite tubers.
