The medium-early universal-purpose potato variety Obriy has passed state variety trials, was included in the State Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine for 1997 (Certificate No. 742), and is recommended for cultivation in the Polissia, Forest Steppe, and Steppe regions of Ukraine. The Obriy potato plant is of medium height with moderately leafy, branched stems. Tubers are short-oval, white with a yellowish tint, eyes are colored, flesh is white. Starch content in tubers — 17.6–18.5%. Average weight of marketable tubers — 90 g, marketability — 92–94%. As shown by results of variety trials at state seed testing stations, Obriy is capable of ensuring a guaranteed yield increase of 5.9% in the Polissia and Forest Steppe regions of the country compared to corresponding standard varieties. Tubers of this variety have good taste qualities (4.3–4.5 points), suitable for technical processing and preparation of various dishes. The variety is resistant to golden cyst nematode, stem nematode, and the common biotype of potato late blight. In addition, it is relatively resistant to phytophthora and common scab, less affected by bacterial ring and wet rots, alternaria, and rust spot than standard varieties. Results of Obriy potato cultivation under production conditions can be reviewed at the experimental farm 'Nemishaye' (Borodian district, Kyiv region), where with the application of 40 tons of manure, 60 kg of nitrogen and phosphorus, and 90 kg of potassium per hectare, the tuber yield was 207 centners per hectare on day 66–70 after planting, and 432 centners per hectare at the end of the vegetation period (on some plots — 530 centners per hectare). The Institute of Potato Breeding is responsible for multiplication and marketing of Obriy potato. The cost of 1 centner of elite tubers is approximately 150 UAH.
