Description Cossack
Cossack — a high-yielding sorghum (Panicum miliaceum L.) variety developed by chemical mutagenesis and registered in the State Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine in 2010–2011. This variety is recommended for cultivation in various climatic zones of Ukraine, including Steppe, Forest-Steppe, and Polissia. The vegetation period ranges from 95 to 105 days, placing it in the mid-early maturity group. The 1000-grain weight reaches 8.0 grams, indicating large and high-quality grains.

The Cossack variety is characterized by high resistance to lodging and shattering, as well as to common Ukrainian races of stalk rot and melanosis, with infection levels from 1 to 4%. These traits ensure stable yields and minimal losses during storage and transport. Additionally, the variety is non-GMO, confirming its ecological safety.

The technological characteristics of the grain and flour of the Cossack variety are high: flour yield is 82.9%, flake content is 16.2%, and the flour has a bright yellow color. Porridge made from this sorghum receives a high rating — 4.8 points — indicating excellent taste qualities. Guaranteed yield increases on Ukrainian variety trials vary from 0.18 to 0.6 tons per hectare, making this variety attractive for agricultural production.
