The Kharkovskoe 57 corn variety is a medium-late maturing aureum type, developed through chemical mutagenesis and hybridization of the Veselepodolyans'koe 403 and Kharkovskoe 25 varieties. It is included in the State Register of Selection Achievements of the Russian Federation and is intended for cultivation in the North Caucasus region. This variety features large oval yellow kernels and a large, dense, elongated panicle, which ensures high uniformity and grain quality.
Kharkovskoe 57 is characterized by high yield, exceeding 38 centners per hectare, as well as drought resistance and resistance to lodging and shattering. The variety is vigorous and responds well to fertilizer application, which allows for significant productivity enhancement. It has moderate resistance to head smut and is rarely affected by melanosis, which contributes to maintaining crop health.
The variety's milling properties are excellent: the 1000-seed weight ranges from 6 to 7.6 grams, the husk removal rate is within 15–17%, and the milling yield reaches 76–79%. These indicators make Kharkovskoe 57 attractive for producing high-quality grit. Due to its characteristics and adaptability to the regional climate, the variety is widely used in the agriculture of the North Caucasus region.
