DescriptionGolden
The Golden Poltava variety of millet is an ultra-early red millet variety, distinguished by high yield and adapted for cultivation in steppe and forest-steppe zones. The vegetation period ranges from 48 to 55 days, allowing its use for second sowing and direct combine harvesting. Seeds feature large yellow grains, with a mass of 1000 grains varying from 8.6 to 9.7 grams, indicating high quality planting material.
Golden exhibits high resistance to diseases and pests, particularly to melanos, although the variety is susceptible to head smut. It is also resistant to lodging and shattering, which contributes to crop preservation. The potential yield reaches up to 66.7 centners per hectare under favorable conditions, while the average yield is 21-37 centners per hectare. The grain fraction output is over 75-81%, and protein content ranges from 11.2-13.5%, ensuring good food qualities.
The variety is characterized by good taste qualities and high content of carotenoid pigments, which give the grain an attractive golden hue and enhance its nutritional value. Leaves are elongated, weakly pubescent, of medium length, and the panicle structure includes deviations of first-order branches from the main axis in the lower and middle parts. For successful cultivation, it is recommended to use perennial grasses and legume crops as predecessors. Seeds of Golden Poltava millet are released in 3-gram packets and are suitable for various climatic conditions.
