Proso of the variety Olitán is a medium-maturing crop, recommended for sowing in the Polissia and Steppe regions. This variety was registered in the Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine in 2008 and was developed by the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine. The maturation period ranges from 84 to 99 days, allowing its effective use in various climatic conditions, including dry periods due to its high drought resistance.
The Olitán variety is characterized by high potential yield, reaching 5.0–6.0 tons per hectare. The grain is light-red, large, with a 1000-seed mass of 8.0–8.3 grams. The milling yield from the grain ranges from 78.4% to 80.0%, making this variety attractive for processing and use in the food industry. The seeding rate varies depending on the region: for the Forest-Steppe zone, 3.2–3.6 liters per hectare is recommended, and for the Steppe zone — 2.2–2.6 liters per hectare.
In addition, the variety exhibits good disease resistance: it is weakly susceptible to bacterial disease and resistant to melanosis, as well as to the corn earworm. These characteristics ensure stable yields and reduce the need for intensive plant protection. Thus, proso Olitán is a reliable and productive choice for farmers working in various natural-climatic zones of Ukraine.
