The 'BIGL 1' oatgrass variety is a hybrid variant of reed oat with a low-growing and dense growth habit, making it ideal for use in sports fields, parks, and golf courses. Plants reach a height of 30–35 cm, possess a thin-leaf structure, and have a high-density stem texture, ensuring resistance to mechanical wear and good cover stability even under intensive use.
Key agronomic characteristics include excellent yield (up to 18–20 t/ha), high protein content in the grain (12.5–13%), and resistance to a wide range of diseases: brown spot, red thread, papillary rotting leaf, fungal smut, and fusarium rotting disease. The variety demonstrates good drought resistance – yield reduction under limited water consumption is only 20%, as well as salt tolerance, allowing it to be grown in moderate climate conditions with elevated salt content.
For successful sowing, a sowing density of 3–4 cm²/m² (or 2.5–3 cm²/m² at higher density) is recommended, as well as the application of complex fertilization: nitrogen – 120 kg/ha, phosphorus – 60 kg/ha, and potassium – 80 kg/ha. Regular loosening, weed removal, and pest control ensure optimal growth conditions. Due to the combination of high yield, disease resistance, and suitability for various climatic conditions, 'BIGL 1' is widely used in the agro-industrial sector as a forage crop, grain product, and biomass source.
