Fescue Raider

Engineering an Optimal Turf Surface

The 'Rider' red fescue from Deutsche Saatveredelung is a breeding product designed for durable surfaces requiring minimal maintenance. The technical superiority of this variety lies in its specific root system architecture and leaf physiology.

Morphological and Biological Specifications

• Shoot Architecture: The leaf blade features a deep, dark green pigment. Through dense tillering, 'Rider' establishes a tight sward that physically suppresses weed emergence, minimizing the need for herbicide application.
• Biological Defense: The breeder has genetically engineered high resistance to pathogens causing Fusarium patch and red thread. This is a critical performance factor for regions with high humidity, where fungal infections can devastate a lawn in a single season.
• Mechanical Resilience: Unlike many fescue varieties, 'Rider' exhibits superior tolerance to mechanical stress and foot traffic. This is achieved through the high elasticity of its cell walls, allowing the plant to recover effectively after heavy use.

Integration and Establishment Guidelines

A sowing rate of 30-40 g/m² is optimal for achieving uniform coverage, provided substrate moisture is maintained during the first 10-15 days. During this window, 'Rider' initiates germination and develops its primary tillering node. This variety is ideal for decorative landscaping in parks and private gardens, where an aesthetic dark green color must be balanced with operational endurance.
