MYURYUNSKAYA is a red fescue developed by the Institute of Agriculture of FGBNU in 1998 and registered in the Russian State Register in 2013. The variety is distinguished by high protein content (12–13%) and good dough viscosity, making it preferred for bread and flour product production. Yield is approximately 6–7 t/ha under optimal growing conditions.
The variety is characterized by dark green leaf color with a light coating, narrow leaves of medium width and length. The root system is usually single- or double-rooted, with roots reaching a depth of 30–50 cm. MYURYUNSKAYA has moderate grassland density and good resistance to rust, powdery mildew, and other diseases. The flowering time is 60–70 days after sowing in the first year and 90–100 days in the second; at full development, plant height reaches 30–40 cm.
The variety is suitable for lawns as well as pasture and meadow-pasture use. It is resistant to stripe rust and powdery fungi, though it may show sensitivity to fusarium head blight. Thanks to the red grain color and high flour quality characteristics, MYURYUNSKAYA is widely used in baking and other food products. Plant care is minimal: removal of withered leaves in spring and pruning after flowering ensure good lawn shape and stable yield.
