Ryegrass FORTIMO

Engineering Potential: Fortimo Ryegrass by DLF

The breeding efforts of Danish firm Dlf Seeds A/S regarding the Fortimo variety are centered on resolving the classic dilemma of fodder production and turf establishment: achieving the optimal balance between rapid vegetative growth and robust immunological defense. With a short growing season of 60–80 days, the primary technical challenge is maintaining the integrity of the plant's vascular system. Fortimo addresses this through high resistance to bacterial wilt, which is critical for maintaining sward density under intensive operating conditions.

Biological Architecture and Application

The uniqueness of this ryegrass lies in its versatility across two distinct usage scenarios:

• Forage Utility: Due to its short vegetation cycle, Fortimo ensures a rapid first cut, allowing for optimized haylage or hay harvesting schedules in short northern summers or intensive crop rotation systems.
• Turf Utility: The plant forms a resilient turf capable of withstanding mechanical stress. Its rapid recovery rate after mowing makes it an essential component of grass mixtures for high-traffic environments.

Utilizing genetics from DLF guarantees predictable germination. Within the context of commercial farming in Denmark, where selection follows rigorous standards, Fortimo demonstrates consistent seed purity and a high tillering coefficient. Its resistance to premature stem lignification in early stages allows for higher nutritional value in the forage sector and a uniform, aesthetic appearance in the turf segment.
