Bentgrass – a perennial grass belonging to the genus Pseudoroegneria (Fescue) of the Poaceae family. It grows to a height of 20 to 70 cm, but in lawn mixes can reach up to 50 cm, and in forage crops up to 150 cm. The stems are thin and soft, the bush is upright, the leaves are narrow, with a smooth lower surface and a matte upper side.
The grass is characterized by high resistance to loads: it is not afraid of treading, recovers quickly after cutting, and can be cut 2–3 times per season without loss of quality. With regular watering, up to 5–6 cuts are possible. The optimal growth temperature is 18–25 °C; it germinates at temperatures above +2 °C, withstands moderate frosts, but is sensitive to snowless winters.
Bentgrass is widely used as a lawn and pasture plant. In lawn mixes, it provides a dense, uniform carpet that regrows well after mowing. In the forage sphere – one of the most valuable grasses for haymaking: green mass 300–400 kg/hm², hay 70–110 kg/hm². Additionally, the grass serves as a cover crop, increasing soil fertility thanks to its abundant root layer, which improves soil structure after harvest.
