Fescue Mystic

The Biological Potential of "Mystic": Genetic Protection and Turf Density

The "Mystic" red fescue, developed by the Danish breeding company DLF, is the result of rigorous selection aimed at creating a sward with extreme resistance to biotic stress. The foundational work by Dlf Seeds A/S has resulted in a cultivar with superior shoot density, which is critical for forming a wear-resistant surface.

Technical Performance and Resistance

The primary engineering goal achieved in "Mystic" is the creation of a natural barrier against fungal pathogens that typically affect grasses under high humidity or temperature fluctuations:

• Fungal Resistance: The variety exhibits enhanced natural resistance to helminthosporium and fusarium. This significantly reduces the reliance on prophylactic pesticide applications.
• Mechanical Durability: Due to its specific tillering habit, "Mystic" fescue possesses high resistance to treading. The root system forms a dense sod that recovers faster than standard cultivars after mechanical impact.

Applications and Ornamental Properties

While "Mystic" is functionally classified as a forage grass, DLF's breeding program has endowed this cultivar with distinct ornamental qualities. The deep green leaf color is maintained throughout a long growing season, making it a desirable component for elite grass mixtures. From an agronomic perspective, utilizing this variety optimizes maintenance costs due to the plant's high viability in stressful environmental conditions.
