MYSTIC is a high-density red fescue (Festuca rubra) variety, specifically developed for forage purposes. The average grain density is 7.7–7.8 g/cm³, which is above average for this species, and the area density reaches 7.7–8.1 kg/m². Such high density ensures higher yields and improves the quality of forage mixtures.
The variety is characterized by excellent wear resistance – 3.5–4.0 points on the GEVES scale, as well as high resistance to rust (8.0) and Fusarium (8.0). Moderate resistance to Helminthosporium allows MYSTIC to be used in conditions where these pathogens are present. In addition, the variety demonstrates good resistance to other diseases and has salt tolerance of 7.4.
Leaf appearance is light green with a reddish tint, thin-leavedness is rated at 8.1. In the ranking of French varieties (Bulletin Gazon 2012), MYSTIC holds leading positions in appearance and resistance, receiving a rating of 9 out of 9 possible points. Thanks to these characteristics, the variety is widely used as a base for producing forage mixtures and as a forage crop under moderate growing conditions.
