Ryegrass BARPLUTO

An Engineering Approach to Grass Breeding

When developing the Barpluto variety, the Dutch company Barenbrug Holland moved away from the classic concept of purely ornamental grasses, focusing instead on universal functionality. This ryegrass is a prime example of how genetic resistance directly impacts maintenance costs.

Biological Potential and Adaptability

The key advantage of this variety is its high resistance threshold to Red Thread (Laetisaria fuciformis). Under conditions of excessive humidity and nitrogen deficiency, most ryegrass varieties are quickly affected by this pathogen, resulting in aesthetic degradation. Thanks to precise selective breeding, Barpluto maintains leaf integrity even under minimal maintenance protocols.

• Morphological Profile: The plant features a medium height (40–70 cm), providing an optimal balance between regrowth rates and required mowing frequency.
• Dual Purpose: Unlike narrow-specialization turf grasses, this variety produces sufficient biomass for forage use, making it a cost-effective solution for multi-purpose farming operations.
• Stress Resistance: The plant's genetic structure is specifically adapted to the climatic volatility characteristic of Dutch breeding standards, minimizing stand loss during the off-season.

Choosing Barpluto is an investment in sward stability. In professional agricultural management settings, this variety demonstrates a predictable response to fertilization and reliable recovery rates following mechanical stress.
