Fescue Kazanova

Engineering an Optimal Turf Density

The 'Casanova' fescue from the Danish breeding company DLF is the result of targeted genetic selection aimed at creating an ornamental covering with minimal maintenance requirements. Unlike standard forage or fast-growing varieties, this genetic material has been selected based on its 'metabolic compactness' parameter.

Biological Resilience as a Foundation for Longevity

The main challenge for fescues is susceptibility to fungal diseases in temperate climates. The genetic architecture of the 'Casanova' variety provides a pronounced immunity to powdery mildew and red thread disease. For the lawn owner, this translates into a reduced need for fungicide treatments and the absence of bare spots after wet periods. The plant possesses high resistance to cellular degradation, making it ideal for creating dense ornamental layouts.

Morphological Features and Aesthetics

• Color Palette: The specific bluish-green hue is achieved through an increased waxy cuticle layer on the leaf surface, which also reduces transpiration.
• Habitus: A plant height of 20–40 cm allows the culture to be used both in solitary plantings and as part of complex landscape compositions.
• Adaptability: Seeds from the originator, Dlf Seeds A/S, are adapted to Scandinavian quality standards, ensuring high germination energy and seed purity.

Using 'Casanova' in decorative landscaping achieves an 'eternal freshness' effect with minimal intervention. Due to its slow growth rate, mowing frequency is reduced, while the turf retains its textural expressiveness throughout the entire growing season.
