KWS TORRIDON

KWS Torridon is a soft spring wheat variety bred by German breeders of the company KWS SAAT SE. It belongs to mid-early maturing varieties with a vegetative period of 78 to 87 days and is characterized by dwarfism: plant height is 58-67 cm. The plant has a short medium stem length, semi-upright tillering, and a cylindrical ear of medium density with white grain color. Wax bloom on the ear and flag leaf sheath is moderate to strong, contributing to resistance to adverse conditions. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 32 to 40 grams, ensuring high grain density and quality. The variety is distinguished by high yield and stability. In the Central region, average yield reaches 28.8 c/ha, which is 3.1 c/ha higher than the average standard, and in the Central Black Earth region – 33.5 c/ha. KWS Torridon possesses high resistance to lodging and is moderately drought-resistant, making it a reliable choice for cultivation in regions such as Ivanovo, Tula, and Tambov. Uniform ripening and uniformity of tillering reduce grain losses during harvesting and decrease costs associated with adverse weather conditions. Baking and milling qualities of the variety are at a good filler level. The grain is characterized by high content of crude protein (15-16%) and crude gluten (over 28%), which ensures excellent technological properties during processing. Grain transparency is 54%, falling number is from 216 to 430 seconds, and natural density varies within 650-800 g/L. High yield potential with adherence to agronomic requirements makes KWS Torridon attractive for farmers seeking to obtain high-quality and stable yield of soft spring wheat.
