Bilberi

Bilberi — this is the first winter spelt wheat variety in Ukraine with a unique dark-purple to black grain color, distinguished by enhanced nutritional value. The variety was created through five sequential interrupted backcrosses of an F1 hybrid, combining the genome of bread wheat and ancient spelt. The grain contains a high level of protein, vitamins, and microelements, and also has high antioxidant activity, giving it therapeutic and preventive properties. Due to reduced immunoreactivity of gluten, products made from this variety have a pleasant taste and enhanced nutritional value.

The Bilberi variety belongs to the intensive type of medium-height wheat with a medium-early vegetation period of 275-280 days. It is characterized by high potential grain yield — 100-110 c/ha, as well as increased resistance to head fusarium, cercosporosis root rot, brown rust, and grain shattering. The variety’s frost, winter, and drought resistance are rated above average (8 points), making it suitable for cultivation in the Steppe and Forest-Steppe regions of Ukraine.

The grain of the Bilberi variety is used to produce dark brown whole wheat flour, suitable for making food products with enhanced nutritional value. Due to its unique properties, this variety is promising for farmers seeking a high-quality, beneficial product adapted to the climatic conditions of central and southern regions of Ukraine.
