Waterplay

The winter wheat variety Waterplay Bila Tserkva is the result of work by Ukrainian breeders and represents an optimal combination of regional adaptability and yield. This medium-maturing variety is characterized by a non-awned, cylindrical, and dense ear with a dense waxy coating on the ear, flag leaf, and straw, which effectively prevents fungal disease penetration and development. Plant height is 90-95 cm, and the 1000-grain weight ranges from 41.9 to 47.8 grams. Waterplay is recommended for cultivation in steppe, forest-steppe, and Polissia regions of Ukraine, where it demonstrates stable yields: 40-45 centners/ha in steppe, 55-60 centners/ha in forest-steppe, and 50-55 centners/ha in Polissia. Waterplay wheat has high protein content — around 13.6%, as well as high gluten quality (27.8-28.7%) and flour strength in the range of 180-217 W, making it attractive for producing high-quality flour. The variety is characterized by high resistance to lodging (8 points), shattering (9 points), powdery mildew (8.5 points), brown rust (8.8 points), and fusarium ear blight (8-9 points). Additionally, it exhibits high winter hardiness (8.6-9 points) and resistance to root rots (8.5-9 points), ensuring reliable cultivation under various climatic conditions. Waterplay was created through intraspecific hybridization of the varieties Elegia and Perlinia Lesostepa and was included in the Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine since 2014. It belongs to the lutescens variety and is characterized by medium height and late heading, allowing it to successfully compete with other varieties. High drought resistance (8.7-9 points) and resistance to leaf diseases (7.9-8.8 points) make this variety a reliable choice for farmers seeking stable and high-quality yields in various agro-climatic zones.
