DORCAS Ryegrass – a perennial grass distinguished by its bright, juicy green hue and high endurance. The plant adapts well to various climatic conditions: optimal growth temperature is 18–25 °C, germination occurs at temperatures above +2 °C, and it can withstand moderate frosts, though snowless winters may pose a threat.
Ryegrass has a well-developed root system, predominantly located in the plowed layer up to 50 cm deep, with a small percentage of roots penetrating 1–2 meters. This ensures resistance to trampling and rapid recovery after grazing or mowing. Plant height ranges from 20 to 150 cm depending on the variety: lawn varieties reach 50 cm, while fodder varieties reach 100–150 cm.
Ryegrass is widely used as fodder grass and a component of lawn mixes due to the high nutritional value of its green mass (300–400 c/ha) and hay (70–110 c/ha). It is easily mowed 2–3 times per season, and up to 5–6 times with irrigation. Sidereal properties manifest in improved soil structure: abundant root cover leaves quality organic fertilizer and enhances fertility.
For growing ryegrass, sunny plots are preferred, but the plant is not picky about soil type. It tolerates drought well, but regular watering enhances growth and yield. After spring planting, seeds germinate quickly, and vegetation actively develops during the warm season, remaining green even under intensive grazing.
