Ryegrass Talan

A versatile solution for forage and landscaping

The 'Talan' ryegrass variety, developed by SKFNATs, exemplifies an adaptive approach to breeding perennial grasses. Unlike many imported varieties that require perfect conditions, this strain—developed under the guidance of V.V. Chumakova and G.G. Gonyan—is engineered for resilience in challenging climates.

Key advantages

• High phytosanitary resistance: The standout feature of this variety is its genetic resistance to helminthosporiosis. This effectively lowers costs associated with fungicide applications, which is vital when establishing large-scale pastures or amenity grass areas.
• Dual-purpose utility: This variety succeeds in two distinct areas. As a forage crop, it provides a consistent yield of green biomass with excellent palatability. In the landscaping segment, 'Talan' is valued for its dense sward formation and ability to rapidly develop a robust turf.

Who is this variety for?

Choosing 'Talan' is a strategic move for farms focused on reducing operational expenses without sacrificing feed quality. It is also an excellent option for landscape professionals managing areas where disease resistance is a higher priority than merely ornamental aesthetics. It should be noted that, like most ryegrasses, 'Talan' requires adequate soil moisture; during periods of extreme drought, regrowth rates after cutting or grazing may slow down—a characteristic inherent to the species rather than a deficiency of the variety itself.
