The «SOUTHEN» rice variety is a mid-season variety developed by Kazakhstani breeders at the I. Zhaikhaev Kazakhstani Research Institute of Rice Breeding. The vegetative period lasts 107-112 days, allowing for a stable harvest under various climatic conditions. The variety is characterized by medium grain length, medium panicle length, and medium-long stalk length. It exhibits high resistance to lodging, shattering, and soil salinization, and tolerates a deep water layer well, making it a reliable choice for cultivation in regions with diverse soil and climatic conditions.
The «SOUTHEN» rice variety boasts high productivity: in the Rostov region, the yield reaches 77.2 c/ha, which is 10.5 c/ha higher than the «BOYARIN» variety, with a maximum recorded yield of 88.6 c/ha. The mass of 1000 grains is approximately 64.3 g. The technological and culinary qualities of the variety are high, making it valuable for the food industry and home use. Protein content in the grain reaches 9%, hulling content is 20%, and the milling yield is 79.3%, indicating good product quality.
The «SOUTHEN» variety also differs in high nutritional value. The grain contains a significant amount of plant protein, exceeding the levels of white varieties by two times, as well as 18 out of 20 known amino acids. The composition includes fiber, which aids digestion, and oryzanol, which helps normalize cholesterol levels and optimize brain function. Additionally, rice is rich in folic acid, necessary for maintaining the health of the immune system, blood vessels, and heart, and important for expectant mothers during pregnancy. All these qualities make the «SOUTHEN» variety an excellent choice for those who adhere to healthy eating principles.
