Yakhont

Yakhont is a mid-late variety of rice (Oryza sativa L.) from the italica subvariety, recommended for cultivation in the Krasnodar Krai and included in the State Register for the North Caucasus region. The vegetation period is 113-125 days, which allows obtaining a stable yield under regional conditions. The variety is characterized by a medium length of the stem and panicle, while the main axis of the panicle is strongly bent. The grain is threshed, of medium length, semi-circular or semi-spear-shaped, with the mass of 1000 grains varying from 29 to 33 grams. The yield of the Yakhont variety is high and stable: the average yield in the North Caucasus region is 77.9 c/ha, in Krasnodar Krai - 87.7 c/ha, and the maximum yield reached 103.3 c/ha. The variety is distinguished by high resistance to lodging, which exceeds the standard level by 0.8 points, as well as resistance to grain shattering. According to the applicant's data, Yakhont has medium resistance to pyricularia, which increases its reliability from an agronomic standpoint. Technological and culinary indicators of the Yakhont variety are recognized as excellent, which makes it valuable for the production of high-quality rice. The absence or weak pubescence of the blade of the penultimate leaf and the absence of anthocyanin coloration of the ears testify to its specific morphological features. The variety was created and tested by the Federal Rice Research Center, which confirms its high productivity and adaptation to the conditions of Krasnodar Krai.
