Radish MOTHER-IN-LAW SURPRISE RADISH

Focus on early harvest: "Surprise of the Mother-in-Law" radish by Sedek

When the gardening season is just picking up, crops with the shortest possible vegetation cycle take center stage. The "Surprise of the Mother-in-Law" ("Сюрприз Тещи") selection product from the Russian agricultural firm Sedek has firmly established itself in the ultra-early variety segment. The originators — Anatoly Lukyanenko and a team led by Sergey and Irina Dubinin — prioritized a combination of compactness and predictable marketability.

Agronomic indicators

• Ripening period: only 20–25 days from emergence to technical maturity.
• Root type: elongated cylindrical shape, which distinguishes it favorably from classic round varieties.
• Weight: standard for the market segment — 20–25 grams.
• Seasonality: the variety demonstrates stability in both spring and autumn sowing.

The cylindrical shape of the root is convenient for slicing into salads, and its small mass allows the radish to quickly gain juiciness without becoming "cottony" if left in the ground. An important feature of the Sedek selection is the uniformity of the produce—within a single bed, the radishes are almost identical, which is appreciated by both home gardeners and small-scale farmers.

The use of "Surprise of the Mother-in-Law" is justified in both protected and open ground. Due to its short vegetation period, this radish fits perfectly into a conveyor cropping scheme: it can be harvested before the soil gets too warm, which is critical for preventing premature bolting. In the autumn cycle, the variety maintains its density, making it a versatile tool for any vegetable grower.
