Potato Zakhidnyy

Stable selection from Lviv: the "Zakhydnyi" potato

In the contemporary agricultural market, where farmers seek the perfect balance between high yield and resistance to diseases, the "Zakhydnyi" variety from the Lviv National Agrarian University stands out as a reliable mid-early crop solution. This variety is a prime example of domestic breeding, specifically adapted to the climatic conditions of the region.

Agronomic Potential and Disease Resistance

The core strength of "Zakhydnyi" lies in its comprehensive resistance to pathogens that threaten potato production every season. The breeding program focused on building an immune response to the most critical threats, including:

• Golden potato cyst nematode;
• Common scab;
• Potato wart disease;
• Late blight (Phytophthora).

This genetic "shield" allows growers to significantly reduce the frequency of fungicide applications, which not only lowers production costs but also aligns with the growing demand for sustainable and environmentally conscious produce.

Ripening and Market Positioning

With a vegetation period of 65–75 days, this variety is perfectly timed to meet market demands in the second half of the summer. The tubers are known for their consistent size and excellent culinary qualities, making them a top choice for commercial sale in retail chains. Its durability during transport adds extra value for those focusing on large-scale distribution.

Choosing "Zakhydnyi" is a strategic move for farmers who value predictability and adaptation. Developed by experts at the Lviv National Agrarian University, this variety proves that locally bred seeds can outperform international competitors in terms of local disease resilience and consistency in harvest output.
