The Camellia potato variety is a high-yielding, mid-early table-type variety developed by breeders from the Netherlands and registered in Ukraine in 2023. The plant is of medium height with an intermediate growth habit, ranging from upright to semi-upright, forming large, uniform oval tubers weighing 102–208 grams. The tuber skin is smooth and yellow, the flesh is also yellow, soft, medium-starchy, and slightly watery, making this variety ideal for making mashed potatoes, baking, frying in oil, and use in fillings. Starch content varies between 11.8–15%, corresponding to culinary type C, characterized by strong breakdown.
The Camellia variety is distinguished by high yield — on average 62 tons per hectare, with each plant forming about 10–11 tubers. Marketability reaches 91%, and storability — 94%, ensuring long-term storage without quality loss. The potato is resistant to potato cancer pathogen, golden potato cyst nematode, and moderately resistant to late blight. Additionally, the variety shows high drought and scab resistance, and is insensitive to the herbicide metribuzin, facilitating care and increasing cultivation reliability.
The growing period of the variety is approximately 75 days, allowing for mid-early harvest. Camellia has good transportability and meets the requirements of the traditional market. Due to its combination of high yield, disease and drought resistance, as well as culinary versatility, this variety is an excellent choice for farmers and consumers who value quality and reliability.
