Potato Javelina

Stable Yields in High-Risk Zones

The «Javelina» potato variety, developed by the Institute of Potato Research of NAAS, is a breeding solution tailored to the primary phytosanitary challenges of Ukrainian soil. Agronomists select this variety not for aesthetic appeal, but to minimize losses during intensive cultivation. The primary value of this hybrid lies in its comprehensive resistance to pathogens that frequently lead to the write-off of significant portions of commercial stock.

Field Performance and Agrotechnical Advantages

The main task «Javelina» addresses is operation on high-risk plots. If your crop rotation faces the threat of golden potato cyst nematode or if your potato crops are consistently affected by common scab, this variety serves as a reliable control tool. High tolerance to late blight allows for the optimization of fungicide application schedules, significantly lowering production costs.

• Biological Threat Defense: The variety demonstrates resistance to potato wart, making it legally and agronomically safe for cultivation in quarantined areas.
• Operational Efficiency: Tubers exhibit a uniform shape, which facilitates mechanical harvesting and subsequent grading on sorting lines.
• Visual Versatility: Depending on soil and climatic conditions, the variety produces tubers with either yellow or pink skin, providing farmers with flexibility to cater to different market segments.

Practical application scenario: «Javelina» is ideal for farms focused on achieving stable, marketable yields without the need for aggressive chemical intervention. Its dense flesh structure and excellent storage properties allow for consistent sales planning, extending beyond the harvest season and into the winter storage period.
