Utenok

Potato variety 'Utenok' is an early-maturing table variety of Russian selection, intended for cultivation in the Volga region. Plants have intermediate, upright bushes of medium height with angular stems and weakly pigmented anthocyanin. Leaves are dark green, medium-lobed, with slight hairs. Flowering is medium and prolonged, inflorescences are compact and multi-flowered with large white corollas. Tubers are elongated-oval in shape with blunt apex, smooth yellow skin, and light-yellow flesh that does not darken upon cutting. Marketable tuber mass varies from 68 to 91 grams, and starch content is 15.0–17.5%.

The variety is characterized by high yield, reaching 122 to 225 centners per hectare, with maximum yields up to 286 centners under favorable conditions. 'Utenok' forms a uniform and early marketable product, which is one of its main advantages. The number of tubers per plant ranges from 8 to 13, and tuber storability reaches 94%. In terms of taste quality, the variety is rated as good to excellent and belongs to culinary type C, making it versatile for boiling, baking, and frying.

The variety is resistant to potato scab, but susceptible to golden nematode and late blight, affecting both foliage and tubers to varying degrees depending on the region. 'Utenok' is low-maintenance and resistant to mechanical damage, facilitating its cultivation and transportation. Due to its combination of high yield, good marketability, and excellent taste, this variety is a valuable choice for farmers and potato enthusiasts.
