Description Lazar
Lazar potato — a medium-maturing domestic variety developed at the Siberian Research Institute of Agriculture in Omsk. The plant is of medium height with upright stems and dark green leaves, white flowers. Tubers are oval-round with small eyes, red skin and white flesh. The weight of marketable tubers ranges from 71 to 161 grams, and the number of tubers per plant reaches 7–14 pieces. Starch content in tubers ranges from 17.8% to 23%, making the variety versatile for various cooking and processing methods.

The Lazar variety is distinguished by high yield — from 173 to 295 centners per hectare, with maximum yields reaching 435 centners. It is resistant to drought, potato blight, viral diseases, and phytophthora of foliage and tubers, ensuring stable yields even under adverse climatic conditions. However, the variety is susceptible to golden cyst nematode. Lazar is adapted for cultivation in the West Siberian region and is also recommended for the Urals, Far East, and central region of Russia.

Lazar potato has excellent consumer qualities: good flesh flavor, culinary type D, allowing tubers to be used for making mashed potatoes, baking, as well as for processing into starch and chips. Storage capacity of the variety is 94%, ensuring long-term storage without quality loss. Due to its combination of high yield, disease resistance, and versatility in use, the Lazar variety is a profitable choice for both farmers and processing enterprises.
