The spring oat variety Друг is a mid-late, high-yielding crop developed at the agricultural research institutes of the central regions of the Non-Black Earth zone and the Ulyanovsk RSIS. This variety belongs to the mutica type, characterized by awnless and white-grained characteristics. Друг differs by its large grain of the thick-plod type, a semi-closed large light-colored ear, and an elongated-oval lemma with medium size and clearly expressed nervation. The awniness of the variety is insignificant, which makes it convenient for processing and use.
The tall, strong, and well-leafed stem of the Друг variety ensures resistance to lodging and diseases, including crown rust and bunt. Thanks to these characteristics, as well as high vegetative mass, the variety is excellent for growing for green mass. The maximum yield on variety plots reached 70.7 ц/га, confirming its high productivity and value for agriculture.
Oat Друг has increased glume content (22-24%) and high protein content in the grain (12-13%), making it an excellent component in legume-cereal mixtures. The culture is cold-hardy, capable of withstanding frosts down to -7-10 °C and recovering from them, which expands its cultivation possibilities in various climatic conditions. The variety is recommended for cultivation in the northwestern, central, central-Volga, and Far Eastern regions, which testifies to its adaptability and versatility.
