Denka

Oat variety Denka was registered in the Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine in 2018 and was created by interspecific hybridization followed by individual-family selection. This medium-maturing variety has a vegetation period of 85 to 100 days and an intermediate plant habit. Leaves are lanceolate-acuminate, bluish in color, with absent or weak pubescence on lower leaves. The panicle is long, with semi-erect branches and drooping secondary spikes, moderately awned. Grain is well-formed, white with a cream tint, with a 1000-grain weight of 35.2 grams. Variety Denka is characterized by high yield potential — up to 8.0 tons per hectare, with average yields of 4.31–4.80 tons depending on the growing region. It is resistant to lodging and shattering, has high resistance to powdery mildew and drought, and is weakly susceptible to crown rust. Protein content in grain reaches 12.7%, and gluten content — 23.1%. The recommended seeding rate is 4.0–4.5 million seeds per hectare, ensuring stable yield and grain quality. Oat is widely used for food, feed, and technical purposes. Grain is used for producing oatmeal, flour, oat coffee, and compound feed, as well as serving as a concentrated feed for animals. The crop grows well on various soil types, including sandy, loamy, clay, and peaty soils, but poorly tolerates salinity. Oat is not heat-sensitive but requires adequate moisture. Its root system is shallow but has a large number of root hairs, ensuring effective nutrient uptake, including phosphorus from insoluble compounds.
