Spring oat variety DENS is a mid-early grain-forage variety with a short plant and semi-erect bush. Plants are characterized by medium height, semi-spreading two-sided panicle, and elongated medium-large grain. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 29 to 38 grams, while the protein content in the grain ranges from 10.0 to 15.4%. The natural density of the grain is in the range of 420-540 g/l, indicating good harvest quality. The vegetative period lasts from 71 to 89 days; the variety matures 2-3 days earlier than the standard Skakun variety, allowing for a harvest in a shorter time.
Variety DENS is characterized by medium resistance to lodging, which ensures harvest preservation under unfavorable weather conditions. However, it is susceptible to a number of diseases, including loose smut, crown rust, powdery mildew, red-brown spotting, and stem rust. Despite this, the variety shows high yield, exceeding standard indicators in various regions such as Central, Volga-Vyatka, Central-Black Soil, North Caucasian, and Lower Volga.
To achieve maximum productivity of oat DENS, it is recommended to take into account the agronomic features of the growing region. Studies conducted in the Pre-Urals showed that the optimal sowing rate and proper choice of a predecessor significantly affect the yield of this variety. Due to its characteristics and adaptability, oat DENS is a reliable choice for grain-forage production in various agro-climatic zones.
