Description Veselopodolyanskye 176
Veselopodolyanskye 176 — a sorghum variety registered in Ukraine since 2006. It was developed by individual selection from a hybrid combination obtained by crossing the varieties Myronovskoe 51 and Veselopodolyanskye. The variety is medium-maturing with a vegetation period of 85–100 days and characterized by high drought resistance. Its potential yield ranges from 5.5 to 7.0 tons per hectare, making it promising for cultivation under various climatic conditions.

Plants of this variety are 90–110 cm tall, with long (27–32 cm), compact, and heavily drooping panicles. Leaves and spikelet bracts lack anthocyanin pigmentation. The grain is dark yellow, large, oval-round, with a husk content of 17–18%. The 1000-grain weight varies from 8.2 to 9.0 grams. The milling yield from the grain reaches 78–80%, with the resulting millet being bright yellow and possessing good taste qualities. The variety belongs to the aureum type and is classified into the forest-steppe ecological group.

Veselopodolyanskye 176 is resistant to melanosis and moderately resistant to rust, enhancing its reliability in agronomic use. The intended use of this variety is for high-quality grain. Recommended seeding rates vary by region: 4 million seeds per hectare for Polissia, 3.2–3.6 million for forest-steppe, and 2.2–2.6 million seeds per hectare for steppe.
