Veselopodil's'ke 16 is a sorghum variety registered in the Ukrainian Plant Varieties Register since 2000. It was developed through individual selection based on a hybrid combination obtained by crossing the varieties Myronivs'ke 94 and Saratovs'ke 853. The variety belongs to the Forest-Steppe ecological-geographical group, is mid-early maturing, and reaches maturity in 75-95 days. Its potential productivity is 5.5-6.0 tons per hectare. It is highly resistant to necrotic melanosis, ensuring stable yields.
The grain of the Veselopodil's'ke 16 variety is characterized by its yellow color, large size, and uniformity. The husk content is 16-18%, and the milling yield is 78-82%. These properties make it suitable for producing 'pshono' grits and other products, including wheat flour. The sorghum has high-quality grain, positively affecting processing and utilization technologies.
The seeding rate depends on the region: for Polissia it is 4 million seeds per hectare, for Forest-Steppe — 3.2-3.6 million, and for Steppe — 2.2-2.6 million. Sorghum is a valuable cereal crop containing significant amounts of macro- and microelements, vitamins, and high caloric value, making it beneficial for health. The Veselopodil's'ke 16 variety is widely used both for grit production and as a silage crop.
