Pea Fakel

Agrotechnical Indicators and Morphology

The «Fakel» pea variety from NVA «Stepova» is a breeding solution focused on yield stability under the climatic risks of Ukraine. With a vegetation period of 70–80 days, it is classified as a mid-early crop. This earliness allows for the effective utilization of spring soil moisture and avoids the peak temperatures of early summer, which often cause pollen sterilization.

Phytopathological Resistance

The key value of «Fakel» lies in its comprehensive resistance to major pea field pathogens. Genetically fixed resistance to ascochyta blight and fusarium wilt significantly reduces the fungicide load on crops. Fusarium is a major threat that can destroy up to 40% of the harvest in cases of crop rotation violations or unfavorable weather conditions; utilizing this variety minimizes the risk of damage to the plant's vascular system.

Grain Morphometric Characteristics

The 1000-seed weight ranges from 200 to 220 grams. This indicator characterizes «Fakel» as a variety with large, well-filled grains. High seed uniformity plays a critical role during sowing: uniform seeding material ensures simultaneous emergence, which is essential for effective weed control and timely insecticide applications.

Technological Potential

The work of the originators, including NVA «Stepova» and various research centers, has focused on creating an adaptive, medium-height plant. The optimal height of the canopy simplifies the harvesting process, reducing losses during combining by minimizing crop lodging. The combination of high yield potential and disease resistance makes «Fakel» a balanced tool for farms prioritizing result predictability in intensive farming environments.
