Smooth brome Demetra

A Decade of Stable Forage Production

The 'Demetra' smooth brome, developed by the National Scientific Center 'Institute of Agriculture of NAAS', is a specialized solution for livestock farms focusing on long-term feed security. Unlike short-lived forage grasses that require annual reseeding, 'Demetra' is engineered for a productive lifespan of 8 to 10 years, making it an efficient investment for stable pasture and hay field management.

Key Advantages and Agronomic Profile

• Resilience: The variety shows exceptional resistance to common threats such as brown rust, powdery mildew, and root rot, which often compromise yields in less robust cultivars.
• Nutritional Value: It consistently delivers a crude protein content of 12–16%, ensuring high-quality fodder for cattle.
• Yield and Handling: With a hay yield of 5–8 tons per hectare and a plant height of 80–120 cm, the variety is optimized for standard harvesting machinery, reducing operational complexity.

Who Should Choose Demetra?

This variety is tailored for professional farmers seeking to minimize the costs associated with frequent tillage and reseeding. Because it is natively adapted to the Ukrainian climate, 'Demetra' offers a more predictable performance compared to foreign hybrids that have not undergone local regional testing. While it is a high-performing crop, its yield potential is fully realized under proper fertilization and soil management. It is not a low-maintenance 'wild' grass but a professional breeding tool designed for those who manage their grasslands with precision and high-efficiency goals.
