Smooth brome VIR 5

Long-term Performance: Choosing Smooth Brome «VIR 5»

For farm operators, the key to a successful forage strategy is selecting a crop that balances high yield with long-term field stability. The «VIR 5» brome variety is engineered for longevity, maintaining productive stands for 8–10 years. This significantly reduces the overhead costs associated with frequent reseeding and soil preparation cycles.

Field Operation and Handling

Reaching heights of 80–120 cm, this crop is well-suited for standard forage harvesting equipment. The uniform plant height allows for efficient mowing and clean windrow formation, ensuring that combine settings remain consistent throughout the harvest. With a yield potential of 5–8 tons of hay per hectare, it provides a predictable and reliable volume of feed year after year.

Nutritional Value and Reliability

Protein content ranging from 12–16 % makes «VIR 5» a high-quality cornerstone for balanced animal feed. Developed by the Kuban Experimental Station (a branch of the Vavilov Institute), this variety is specifically adapted to perform under diverse climatic conditions. Its resilience and nutritional profile reduce the need for expensive protein supplements, translating into lower production costs and better bottom-line results for your operation.
