Smooth brome Lviv'ianka

Technical Profile of 'Lvivyanka' Bromegrass

'Lvivyanka' is a perennial smooth brome variety developed by the Institute of Agriculture of the Carpathian Region of NAAS. Designed specifically for long-term fodder production, this variety addresses the need for resilient, high-biomass crops in forage-intensive agricultural systems.

Morphological Resilience and Productivity

The agronomic design of this variety focuses on stability and sustained yield:

• Plant Architecture: Reaching a height of 80–100 cm, 'Lvivyanka' offers an ideal balance for mechanical harvesting, ensuring optimal biomass accumulation without lodging issues.
• Foliage Quality: The variety features a high leaf-to-stem ratio. In forage science, this is a critical structural detail, as the leaves contain significantly higher levels of crude protein and digestible carbohydrates compared to the fibrous stems.
• Root System & Longevity: The robust root structure ensures deep soil anchorage and drought resistance, enabling the stand to remain productive for 7–10 years.

Practical Application in Forage Systems

The engineering of 'Lvivyanka' emphasizes rapid regrowth after cutting, which is vital for maximizing seasonal yields. Its superior cold hardiness makes it an ideal choice for the temperate and mountainous climates of Ukraine. It is particularly effective for soil conservation on sloped fields where erosion control is required, while simultaneously serving as a high-quality, grazing-tolerant forage crop. By maintaining a dense canopy, 'Lvivyanka' naturally suppresses weed competition, reducing the need for chemical intervention in long-term pastures.
