The Danko grape variety is a mid-season technical variety widely used for producing table and dessert wines, as well as eco-friendly dietary juices. The bushes of this variety are vigorous, with good cane ripening and adaptability to various conditions. Bunches are cylindrical, moderately dense to dense, weighing between 160 and 250 grams. Berries are of medium size, round, black or deep blue-violet in color, with a dense and elastic skin that is easily bitten. The pulp is juicy and fleshy, with a pleasant taste featuring notes of cherry, potato, and dried fruits, as well as a light muscat nuance. Berries contain 2-3 seeds of medium size.
The sugar content of the grape varies from 17 to 26%, acidity is 7-9 g/l, which ensures a harmonious taste and high quality of the final product. Yield of the variety reaches 120-150 centners per hectare. The vine withstands frosts up to -24°C, and according to some data up to -26°C, which makes the variety resistant to adverse climatic conditions. Danko has high field resistance to diseases such as phylloxera, downy mildew, gray rot, and powdery mildew, which allows it to be grown as rootstock without the need for grafting.
Danko grape is widely used for making red strong wines, including wines of the type «Cahors», which are characterized by dark ruby color, a well-developed bouquet with tones of cherry stone and dried fruits, moderate fullness and harmony. In addition, high-quality dessert wines with unrivaled taste and aroma, as well as dietary juices with rich color and good juice yield, are obtained from this variety. Due to its characteristics and resistance, the Danko variety is a reliable choice for industrial cultivation and winemaking.
