The Syrah Tamanskaya grape variety is the result of fundamental scientific work by experts from KubSAU and AF Yuzhnaya. Created with the participation of Professor Leonid Petrovich Troshin, this variety is an interpretation of the famous international Syrah (Shiraz) variety, specifically adapted to the climatic conditions of the Taman Peninsula. The primary purpose of this crop is the production of high-quality wines that authentically express the terroir of the Southern region.

Agrobiological Features and Wine Profile

Unlike the classic French Syrah, Syrah Tamanskaya demonstrates increased resistance to local stress factors: high summer temperatures and the specific soil composition of the South. The originators focused on preserving the varietal aromatics characteristic of the species: dense notes of black berries, spices, and a well-defined tannin structure.

• Technological Potential: The variety is ideal for producing red wines with aging potential. Due to the balanced accumulation of sugars and phenolic compounds, the resulting wines are full-bodied.
• Target Audience: An optimal choice for wineries focused on producing wines with Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), which require a combination of international recognizability and local specificity.

Strengths and Weaknesses

The key advantage of this variety is the manageability of the ripening process in the hot climate of Taman. While many European clones suffer from "over-ripening" and loss of acidity, Syrah Tamanskaya maintains the necessary balance for creating complex, layered wines. A potential weakness is the demand for a precise pest and disease management system during periods of high humidity, which is common for most technical grape varieties.
