Rossinant tall fescue is a fast-growing variety of red fescue (Festuca rubra subsp. rubra), specifically developed for use as pasture, forage grass, and decorative lawns. The variety is distinguished by its high density and excellent appearance: a rating of 6.4–6.5 on a 1–9 scale confirms its ability to form a dense, even layer of leaves with a bright green summer and an attractive winter color. Thanks to its thin-blade structure and drought tolerance, the plant quickly fills space, reaching full density over a short period.
Key agronomic characteristics include excellent disease resistance, especially to red thread, as well as low nitrogen fertilizer requirements. This makes the variety economical and environmentally friendly: less nitrogen is required, which reduces fertilization costs and lowers the risk of soil and water resource contamination. With proper care, the tall fescue maintains high yield and density, while also demonstrating good wear resistance, which is particularly important for pastures and sports fields.
For growing Rossinant, sowing is recommended in the spring period (from March 15 to 20), on moderately fertile, well-drained soils with a pH of 5.5 to 7.0. Seeds are easy to sow and require regular watering after planting, but do not require intensive fertilization – 1–2 kg/ha of nitrogen and phosphorus is sufficient if needed. The plant is resistant to drought and frost (withstands temperatures down to -10 °C), as well as tolerates hot summer periods well, making it suitable for a wide range of climatic conditions.
As a result, Rossinant tall fescue is a universal product: it is suitable both for commercial cultivation of pastures and forage grasses and for creating decorative lawns in parks, urban green strips, and sports fields. Its high density, disease resistance, and low fertilizer requirements make it an economically advantageous choice for farmers and landscape designers.
