Fescue ONEZHSKAYA

Northern endurance for your lawn

The 'Onezhskaya' red fescue variety is a prime example of breeding aimed at creating resilient turf in unstable climates. Developed by the Institute of Biology at the Karelian Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences, this crop is adapted to the harsh conditions of the North-West, making it exceptionally resistant to extreme temperature fluctuations.

Why choose 'Onezhskaya'?

• High traffic tolerance: Unlike many ornamental blends, this variety demonstrates high resistance to trampling. This makes it an ideal choice for areas with heavy foot traffic.
• Compact growth: Reaching a height of 20–40 cm, the plant requires less frequent mowing while maintaining a neat, well-kept appearance.
• Germination speed: Seedlings emerge within 7–14 days, which is an excellent performance for a perennial lawn grass.

Strengths and weaknesses: The main advantage of 'Onezhskaya' is its low-maintenance nature. It thrives in nutrient-poor soils and does not require the intensive care often needed for delicate imported varieties. However, like any fescue, it does not tolerate extreme waterlogging, so proper drainage is essential when establishing your lawn.

This variety is optimal for those seeking a balance between aesthetics and functionality. It is perfectly suited for private gardens and public green spaces alike, where a dense, durable green carpet is required.
