Festuca 'Silver Rill' is a decorative perennial grass widely used in landscape design as a lawn substitute and for adorning gardens, terraces, and paths. The plant reaches a height of 20–30 cm, forming dense clumps with narrow, cylindrical leaves of a silvery-blue shade (light green in summer). Leaves are upright or slightly spreading, up to 8 cm long, with finely curled edges and pointed tips. The panicles are small, 3–5 cm, flowering in June–July, giving the plants a vivid green hue.
Festuca prefers sunny, dry locations but can tolerate light partial shade; the soil should be fertile and well-drained (sandy or clay). The plant is hardy to frost down to –25 °C and does not require frequent watering. Due to its compactness and low maintenance, 'Silver Rill' is ideal as a decorative lawn, an element of alpine gardens, and vegetation for rock gardens and borders.
With proper care, the grass tolerates various climate conditions well. Possible diseases include fungal infections (e.g., powdery mildew) and leaf damage by insects (aphids, thrips). Timely application of fungicides and preventive measures allow effective control of these problems, keeping the plant healthy and decorative.
