Festal – is a perennial decorative grass, a variety of the genus Festuca, which is characterized by compact growth up to 20–30 cm in height and dense cushions of thin bright green leaves. The leaves curl into tubes, and spikes 5–7 cm long form light brown clusters after flowering in June–July. The grass withstands cold temperatures up to -34 °C and wind load, making it suitable for use in open ground, as well as in containers, rock gardens, and alpine gardens.
The culture is distinguished by high growth density: each square meter can produce many stems, and seed yield is high, which allows using festal as material for planting new lawns or as a forage mix. The flower has an anthocyan hue (reddish-brown), giving landscape design a decorative accent, and leaves are covered with whitish bloom, enhancing the vividness of the green color.
For successful cultivation, festal must be placed in a sunny location in acidic or neutral soil with good drainage. Watering should be moderate – excess moisture leads to root rot, while deficiency may slow growth. A distance of 10–20 cm between plants is recommended, loosening the soil and removing weeds if necessary. During the winter period, dead leaves should be trimmed to prevent disease development. By following these recommendations, the grass will serve as a reliable covering for lawns, decorative compositions, and bonsai systems.
