Description CNA
Bromus (Brome grass) – a perennial grass widely distributed across all extra-tropical regions of the world, including Asia, Europe, and North Africa. It is characterized by the presence of both generative and vegetative shoots, which ensures rapid regrowth after mowing or trampling. Due to such resistance to mechanical damage, bromus is often used as a fodder crop: cattle graze on fields sown with bromus, and hay is harvested for winter storage.

Fodder varieties of bromus can reach heights of 100–150 cm and possess high nutritional value. They are resistant to grazing and intensive pasturing, making them attractive for livestock farming. Lawn varieties typically grow up to 50 cm, maintain aesthetic appeal even after frequent use by children and other people, and recover quickly after trampling.

Bromus has a well-developed tufted root system: the main mass of roots is located in the plough layer up to 50 cm deep, while a small part penetrates to a depth of 1–2 meters. This ensures resistance to drought and excessive moisture. Optimal growing temperature – 18–25 °C; the plant begins to germinate at temperatures above +2 °C and can withstand moderate frosts, however severe snowless winters can be dangerous. Sowing is usually carried out in spring or autumn, and the vegetation period lasts from two to three months.
