Fescue COLOSSOS

Why professionals choose "Kolossos"

When it comes to creating durable lawns or building a high-quality forage base, Danish breeding from DLF traditionally holds a leading position. The "Kolossos" red fescue variety is a prime example of a highly specialized approach to grass mixtures, where disease resistance and leaf architecture take precedence over mere growth speed.

Technical features and protection

The main challenge for many fescue varieties is their susceptibility to fungal diseases during humid periods. Unlike standard varieties, "Kolossos" possesses a genetically ingrained immunity to Fusarium and powdery mildew. This is a critical factor for regions with temperate climates, as it allows for a significant reduction in fungicide application costs while maintaining a rich green leaf color throughout the entire season.

• Dual-purpose utility: The variety performs equally well in ornamental landscaping and as a key component in forage mixtures.
• Growth height: The 60–100 cm range provides sufficient biomass, which is highly valued for forage production.
• Danish breeding: The originator, Dlf Seeds A/S, ensures high germination energy and seed purity.

Who is this variety for?

"Kolossos" is the ideal solution for those seeking a balance between aesthetics and functionality. If you need a ground cover that can withstand a volatile climate without developing "diseased" spots after the first summer rain, this is your choice. In the forage segment, this variety is prized because the leaves remain soft and nutritious, without turning coarse even upon reaching maximum height. A minor drawback is the necessity to strictly follow crop rotation and nitrogen fertilization guidelines, as an excess of nitrogen can cause lodging during periods of intense growth.
